Our services

We provide editing and publishing support at all stages of developing, polishing and producing any type of written publication

We can help you work out what kind of editorial support you’re looking for and tailor our services to match.

Writing

We work with our clients to draft, structure and polish text so that it conveys clear messages to the intended audience and is easy to understand, learn from and apply.

Editing

We offer substantive editing, copyediting and proofreading.

Substantive editing ensures that the material is coherent and reads well. Sometimes it includes structural editing, which is about reorganising the material into a more logical shape that is easier for the reader to follow.

Copyediting is a detailed line-by-line check to make sure the text is grammatically accurate, stylistically consistent and free from typographic errors. The copyeditor also identifies instances where the meaning may be unclear or not what the author intended.

Proofreading is the final editing step in the publishing process. At this stage, we correct any remaining errors in textual and visual elements before it goes to print or digital publication.

Plain language

We rewrite complex text into plainer language so that it communicates clear messages and makes the content engaging and usable for readers.

Annual reports

Our annual report services include copywriting, substantive and copy editing, plain English editing, proofreading and indexing.

We have worked closely with in-house corporate reporting teams on many Australian Government department and agency annual reports and corporate plans each year since 2010.

Legal editing

Apricot Zebra offers specialist legal editing services. Our clients in this area include the Attorney-General’s Department, the Australian Institute of Administrative Law, and the Independent National Security Legislation Monitor.

Indexing

In line with professional indexing best practice, we produce indexes that enable readers to find information quickly and efficiently and anticipate how readers will search for information.
